  • 1.  Relative Custom Controls with Sequences??

I have been doing more with building sequences for effects that push and pull video from boxes and what not. When I go to build a "relative" custom control to trigger the sequence, it will only work on the ME that I used while building the custom control, and not the other. I have worked around this by building 2 separate custom controls, one for each ME, that have a hold off the top. I save the memory with ME1 and it's custom control, then do the same for ME2. When the template comes up in OverDrive, the custom control for whichever ME the effect landed in is highlited red, so we know which to use to trigger the effect. This works well, and it's nice having the custom show up red, but I still wonder what I'm doing wrong in not being able to get this to work with a "relative" custom control. Any ideas?

Also, is it possible to build a Custom Control that will clean out any "Hold" on Customs that got called up but did not run?

    Hi Amy,

What version are you on again? There's a function inside Insert Special that is Run Sequence. That allows you to run a sequence on an MLE without selecting the sequence button and auto trans on the panel. It just runs whatever is loaded on a particular keyer of an MLE.

So when recording a custom, whatever MLE and keyer is selected in the Insert Special process needs to be physically tallied. If you select MLE1, MLE1 needs to on the PGM bus of MLE3 (assuming you're a 3MLE facility)

    Thanks Chris,

Our Switcher is Version 16.1m and OverDrive is12.0.9. I looked at the "special" options, and did see the Run Sequence function. I had just been selecting the sequence and hitting auto trans when recording the customs. But, I also noticed that under the Run Sequence function, it asks to specify which MLE and which Key....does that mean that each Custom is still specific to just one MLE and that I can't build a "relative custom" that will just run the sequence on whichever MLE the template happens to land on?

This isn't a huge deal, except that when I build customs specific to just on MLE, I put a hold on them ...and if the custom does not get triggered for some reason, that hold stays there and can cause problems down the line. That is why I also asked if there is a way to build a custom to clear out holds.

With all relatives, put either MLE on the Bkgd bus of your PGM/PST MLE. It doesn't matter which. When you're recording the relative, any button (or function) you choose in that MLE that's on air is recorded as relative. So if MLE1 is on-air, select MLE1 in the Run Sequence function.

I feel like I knew this at some point and then completely forgot...duh! None the less, it works....so, YAY! and thank you! Now to rebuild the things I built over the past few days....

    Hi Amy,

When you were recording the relative custom control to trigger the "Auto Trans" button to run your sequence, did you have any re-entries taking place on the switcher? (MLE 1 or MLE 2 selected on the program MLE, or other MLEs selected in other MLEs) Make sur ethat you don't have any re-entry taking place on the switcher when recording a relative custom control, as that will negate the relative command, and make it MLE-specific, like a regular custom.

    Thanks!
