Production Workflow

We are trying to get our switcher and OverDrive upgraded to all the newest versions. I have been asked to make a hard sell on why we need the upgrades and how the new versions would help us and improve our shows. I know some features of the newer versions, but certainly no everything. So, to any of you out there running anything newer than what we have....What do you like about it? What are the most useful features? What has been improved upon? Thanks a bunch!!

Our OverDrive is Version 8.11.4665

Ok...well, if nobody can tell me what they like best/use most in the new OverDrive / Switcher versions....is there somewhere I can find actual lists of the things that were added with the new versions??

Hi Amy,

Sorry we're so late in getting back to you. The #1 thing you'll realize in version 12 of Overdrive is the ability to build templates that address all 4 keyers of your MLEs, as well as the second channel of a PST PATT Fly Key. That in and of itself is a big deal for you. Also, I find Custom Controls as Transitions to be a big deal as well. That's nice for doing transitions coming out of the internal still store. Some other nice features is a pretty easy config of backup video servers. So if you have a ton of TONS which you usually do, you can configure a few as backups for primaries, and they gang roll together and switch quickly if a play out box crashes.

Those are the biggest things. If you can wait for a bit, v14 offers a MUCH improved plugin that allows you to save completed shots.

Thanks, Chris! Some of that sounds like stuff that is fancier than anything we do, since I'm not sure I even quite understand everything you are saying....HA! I do LOVE the idea that the templates can address more than 2 keyers and second channels!! I had thought this was the case, but when I read through the manual for Version 12, it seemed like maybe it was NOT, so I'm glad to hear that it really is. Hopefully we'll get our hands on the upgrade very soon.

Amy, FYI..

V. 9 has the ability to create OD templates that address all 4 MLE keyers and access secondary channels to fly keys. Also, V. 10 gives the ability to do transitions with custom controls as well.

In conjunction with the Vision update, OD V. 12 gives the ability to do OD custom controls like take, prep, ect., which do not use the GPI commands. Though I can no longer find the OD v 12 release post, I recall reading that V. 12 would cue custom controls in advance, so that they would fire correctly.
