Is there a way to invert a mask within Xpression?

No, you have to create an image of the shape of mask you want and use that.

This seems to come up every couple of months. One thing Ross has been really good with is implementing requested functionality in future releases. So, to that end, are there any plans for inverse mask interpolation on the development road map?

We need INVERT MASK!  I'm replying to this thread to bump it back to the top.  It's been coming up "every couple of months" for years.  Other systems have had this feature since last century and I think it's high time Ross joined the club!  This one item would vastly simplify both creation and animation.  Please Ross?

Open the Material editor for your mask material, select Texture, then Alpha Blending, pull down Blend Mode, choose Subtract, then set Mix Value to 100. I've only used this with a very soft, feathered mask...with a harder edge, you might see problems.

Yeah, that work around doesn't hold in all usage cases, I've done it myself at times.
