  • 1.  Carbonite Ultra Device Swap

    We think we know the answer is no, but thought we would give it a ask in here.

    Can we do a device swap (VTR machines) in a Carbonite Ultra without the redundant VTR machines being cross points on the switcher?  Both devices are in the Ultrix but not on the carbonite as we only have 24 inputs to work with.

    Are you controlling your VTRs as devices in the Carbonite Ultra?

    And the Ultrix?

    I have the first two set up as devices.  Adding two more, but I don't have enough physical inputs on the Carbonite to add them in. If I make the next two setup as virtual inputs, can I do a device swap then?

    Hello Michael,

    There is a way to do a "cold" swap in OverDrive/Caprica, that might work for you.

    • In the Caprica Port Configuration for your video servers,in the network configuration, click "Alternate" and enable
    • Add an alternate IP to your other video server
    • In Caprica you can create a CC with a Special action to swap the connection
    • You can then combine it with the CC for the Ultrix Salvo for the input change in your Carbonite
    • Reprepare manually the next video server once you have done the swap
