  • 1.  PivotCam-20 control with Dashboard software and the Carbonite 3S at the same time

    Hello,
I have a small question regarding the connectivity of the PivotCam-20, and not the SE version. Until now I used the PTZ camera controlled with the Dashboard software with the Virtual Panel provided by the company. I simply open the .grid file, I enter the Camera configurations and everything goes well I have control of the camera. I've been working with this setup for a few years now. I also have a Carbonite 3S panel in my equipment fleet and this one has an integrated joystick. The technician who held my position at the time did not think it appropriate to connect the PivotCam-20 to the Carbonite. I knew it was possible to control the PivotCam-20 with the Carbonite's joystick, but I had never looked into the problem until yesterday. Obviously it is easy to understand the added value of the joystick compared to a touchscreen controlled only by the Dashboard software. I configure the Carbonite taking into consideration the configurations of the camera made previously and I test the new configurations. At first glance it doesn't work. Subsequently, to check if there is no conflict between the commands sent by the Dashboard software and those sent by the Carbonite, I close, in the Dashboard software, the Panel (.grid) corresponding to the Camera control and surprisingly the Carbonite alone takes control of the camera. Conclusion Indeed I am able to use the joystick, great, but I lose all the useful and easily accessible features that I found in the Dashboard .grid file. Like for example the ease of recalling shots, focus and color correction which is easier to control on the Dashboard software than on the Carbonite. So I came to the conclusion that if I have everything configured correctly I will have to make a choice, Carbonite or Dashboard. I updated the Dashboard software to the latest version that I found on the Ross Video site to try to connect the camera by adding a new connection in the Basic Tree view. According to my research, it is the way of connecting the PivotCam-SE that allows you to take control in Dashboard. This way the Dashboard software does not recognize the PivotCam-20. Probably because configuring this way does not offer the possibility to connect the -20 model, only the -SE models and above.
I imagine you see me coming with my question. Is there a way to connect and control the PivotCam-20 by both the Dashboard software and the Carbonite 3S at the same time. I looked to see if it was possible to update the firmware of the PivotCam-20 to see if that could solve my problem, but I couldn't find anything on the Ross Video site. If it is possible and if this is the solution to my problem, would it be possible that someone can tell me the procedure to follow.

I look forward to your response
    THANKS!

    Hi Jonathan,

You can control your PivotCam-20 with Dashboard and Carbonite at the same time. There should be a serial-to-IP device that sits between your PivotCam-20 and your network. If your serial-to-IP device came from Ross, then you probably have the Moxa NPort 5150. Go to a web browser and enter the IP address of your PivotCam, which is really the IP address of the Moxa NPort 5150. In the Moxa's configuration, increase the number of 'Max Connection' from 1 to 2 (screenshot attached). Then both Dashboard and Carbonite can simultaneously maintain a connection to the Moxa NPort 5150.

    Hey Aaron,

Why this is all good information and I'll definitely make a note of it. ^_^

I don't think this was intended for me. You might want to double check to see if Jonathan got your reply.
