They help a great deal, Neil. I've been banging away on a CG Designer setup for a few months and after some hand-holding from JB and a gander at your tutorials my work habits have improved immensely. And given me some ideas for other ways to try to break Designer. Thanks, sorry it took so long ...

Les, thanks for the response. I'll have to ponder it some more, as my hair is starting to hurt. The more I learn about this littlle beastie, the more it amazes me how much power is in so small a package. Regards, Geoff. #Carbonite

Thank you both, David & Gary. Now I'll have a hobby for the next few months! Gary, I'm assuming there _is_ a return code for a 'SET' command, based on success or failure, no? Thanks again, Geoff. #CrossOver

David, As an aside, are you using the ftp userid/pw combo to telnet into the Solo? Thanks, Geoff. #CrossOver

Gents (Nigel & Les), First, animations can also be built using XPression CG Designer, which could output a Targa sequence along the lines described in the Solo manual. What's _not_ so clear from the manual is how long an animation can be when loaded into a Media-Store. I would imagine, since they're ...

Jamie, Have a look at how PS creates the alpha. I seem to remember that some graphics packages would create alphas in a reversal of the style we're accustomed to in video, that is the 'hole' is created as white, where the switcher would expect to key out anything in black. Regards, ...

Would it be possible to render the output and play the animation in the CrossOver? But that, I suppose, means sacrificing another keyer for the 'live' data. #XPression

JB, I've got a Designer install for a Crossover Solo and no sign anywhere of the SDK material, even as a choice on the install CD. Is that 'cuz I've only got the 'CG' version? Regards, Geoff. #XPression

How do I refresh the database/XML data on a USB drive? Switcher can't find items transfered to the drive (via FTP), and insists on listing items no longer on the drive. Detached and reattached the drive, and now I have nothing. Ideas? Thanks, Geoff.

Thanks Les, as you might imagine, the two posts went hand in hand but I wanted to separate the 'topics.' There's still no way to 'store' (via FTP or otherwise) internally, I take it. I saw the four folders for the Media Stores, but was hoping I could use internal storage to stash some lower thirds. USB ...

Valerie, I use that combination for our local town meetings and it all works nicely. XPression is a bit steep to learn strictly for live CG, especially for talking heads, but it's a big beefy 3D animation package so you'll have a tool to do some jazzy stuff. I'm also using the PC for a bit more than ...

Is it possible to store the contents of a Media Store internally, or via USB for that matter? I see plenty of info regarding recalling images, but no info as to how to store an image loaded into the Media Stores to be stored. Thanks, Geoff.

I need some clarification. I'm using a Solo(16) with the XPression Designer as the CG. Do I have four MediaStores or two? If I'm 'rendering' to the Solo from Designer do I really need an alpha channel? Isn't this more of a 'Self Key,' using the included alpha info to cut the hole? Bonus throw-away ...

Well, ok, I _was_ working with 32 procs in parallel, so 'live' might be out of the question (for the moment). But what about recorded video running as a background, or on the face of a 3D object? #XPression

Yes, but can you create a bump map using the luminance info in the live video? On an old, now defunct, IBM system I was able to cast a drop shadow that moved with the contours of the underlying video. It was a chore, but a wonderful effect. #XPression

Along the lines of the mask question, can texture maps be created using live video? Thanks, Geoff.

Brian, I've just finished a facility upgrade which contains a Crossover Solo and Xpression installed. Unfortunately, by the time I got up and running (and accessed the website) it was Nov. 10 and too late to take y'all up on your generous offer of an intensive operator training. Any chance you guys will ...

Can you make a change in the next rev. of the manual? On page 4-4 you refer readers to several different chapters, but someone merely copied the "to create a text object" line... Thanks, Geoff. #XPression
